Beyond the basic flavors, this soda tasting party explores some of the more unique and less common colas. The party serves up several flavors of Minnesota based, Northern Soda Company’s sugary beverages. The soda is the featured attraction but the adorable printables from Prints for Life Events add the perfect accents for a cute and tasty experience.
Build a Soda Tasting
To create a soda tasting party, start by selecting a colorful piece of fabric to ground the space. The fabric sets the tone and mood of the tasting. I suggest choosing a bright and vibrant piece of fabric. The one pictured reminds me of the bubbles and fizz of soda pop. A great choice for the party’s theme. Cut the fabric into a square the width of your table and then place it on the diagonal across the serving space.
After laying the bubbly fabric, let the printables take center stage as the party’s centerpiece. Start building the theme with signage. The first sign is an 8×10, general soda tasting sign. Group it with a smaller 4×6 sign describing the categories for the tasting. Back both of the signs with colorful card stock paper. Next, tag each of the soda flavors and than display them on a lime green cake stand. This is the same cake stand used in our Fortnite Back to School party. Along side the signs, place three bowls filled with soda crackers, tortilla chips and pretzels. These are the same bowls used in our End of School Year Ice Cream party. The snacks aren’t necessary for a soda tasting but they help cleanse the palette in between sips.
Place settings
With the centerpiece ready, turn attention to the place settings. Use the same printable package to print the place mats on 11×17 plain, white paper. Print and display the tasting score cards sit next to each place mat. Back them with black card stock and set a colorful gel pen on top. Kids really enjoy the score cards. It’s fun to rate the color, fizz and favor of each soda sampled.
Using 9 ounce clear plastic cups pour to sodas into the corresponding glasses. Then rank and rate each flavored soda. Clear cups are important for this party. Rating soda color and fizz is harder with a colored glass. For this party, we sampled Cherry Citrus, Pontoon Punch, Minnesota Apple, Sunday Purple and Blue Raspberry. Each was unique and interesting. We liked them all. Of course, we didn’t agree on an overall winner but Cherry Citrus and Pontoon Punch rated highest in our family.
No matter what flavors are sampled this soda tasting party is fun, interesting for the kids and easy to put together.
