The reading buddy classroom birthday treat is the perfect creative solution to run of the mill cupcakes or cookies. I stumbled across the idea on Pinterest when I was trying to think of a treat that incorporated my sons love of animals into a sharable snack for his first grade class. The reading buddy not only had ties to my sons personality, it also tied in with the school’s curriculum and emphasis on reading and language arts skills.
Not only is the reading buddy treat cute and fun it’s almost as easy as purchasing a couple dozen cupcakes. Here’s what you’ll need:
- one small animal for each child in the class
- curling ribbon
- birthday tag printable-laminated
I purchased two dozen mini stuffed zoo animals from Oriental Trading for less than $25. I cut out a laminated birthday tag for each animal and tied it around the animal’s neck with curling ribbon. And done. My son reported that his classmates were thrilled with the reading buddy birthday treat and hopefully they read to their new friend every night.
Birthdays at our house are super important. I love to create themed parties to celebrate our little boys. Check out my firefighter, pirate, barnyard, and construction themed parties for more ideas to mark your child’s special day.
