The zoo. My kids love a trip to see their favorite animals. High on their list of critters to have a close encounter with; lions, zebras and monkeys. Since animals need a lot of space to roam, a visit to the zoo can require lots of steps and preparation to ensure a positive experience. We recently discovered the small, intimate Pine Grove Zoo just 45 minutes from our house in Little Falls, Minnesota and they have zebras.
The Pine Grove Zoo is easy to navigate. It took us just over an hour to visit all the animal exhibits. We were able to see a kangaroo, prairie dogs, a bobcat, bison, and elk. We also saw the park’s tigers, bears, emus and foxes. Those animals were sleeping in the shady areas of their enclosures so we couldn’t get good pictures.
The boys’ favorite exhibit was the river otters. The otters were very active, climbing over each other and playing both on land and in their pond.
One of the best features of the exhibit is the crawl-thru-tunnel that allows kids to watch the otters swim all around them.
Another trip highlight was the petting zoo. Pine Grove Zoo has a couple of llamas, goats and donkeys in a small stable for guests to pet and feed. We purchased a few quarters worth of feed and enjoyed letting the animals nibble the bites from our hands.
Our visit to the Pine Grove Zoo was a fun little day trip. You can read more about our family’s other adventures here.
