Putting up the Christmas tree can be exhausting. To power through the work, we crank the Christmas music and take a time out to refuel with a steamy cup of hot cocoa. My hot cocoa party requires minimal setup but includes A LOT of sugar. Cute decorations and tasty hot cocoa toppings allow us so refuel and ready ourselves to put the finishing touches on the Christmas tree.
To set up the hot cocoa party, I start by wrapping our kitchen island in a basic red, plastic table cloth. Next, I use a cute piece of holiday fabric as the island runner. In the center of the island, I place an 18 inch red Christmas tree and a red cake stand with North Pole Cupcakes. I make these same cupcakes for my North Pole Express Party.
Since hot cocoa is the focus of this party, I display our snowman mugs surrounding the cupcake stand. If you don’t have snowman mugs, any type of Christmas mug would be great. I actually really like these. A hot cocoa party would not be complete without tasty toppings to accompany the cocoa.
Tasty Toppings
To garnish our hot cocoa I fill footed glassware with chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, and chocolate-covered mint candies. The mini wooden spoons are adorned with tiny bows made of thin ribbon and hot glued to the spoon.
I then glue more tiny bows to the corners of a chalkboard hot cocoa printable. I found the printable sign here. A can of whipped cream is decorated with a piece of burlap ribbon. A piece of the same fabic used for the table runner is also tied to the can.
Using a store-bought pennant banner like this one, I cut out letters for the word cocoa using computer paper and my home printer. In between each letter of the banner I tie strips of tan burlap, red burlap and fabric that is used on the island runner.
I also stuffed a small drinking glass with snowflake paper drinking straws. The party was easy to set up and my boys enjoyed slurping up the fun.
