Each year my kids spend months contemplating and deciding on what type of birthday party they want. Dinosaurs, fire trucks and ninjas have all been centerpieces of this yearly decision making process. A couple years ago, I casually asked our preschool aged kiddos what type of party we should plan for their daddy. My four-year-old thought for a few moments and then says, “daddy should have a beer birthday.” And so it was. The beer themed birthday party was born.
Hoppy Birthday Party-Decorations
I printed the Hoppy Birthday banner and the Beer Here signs from printables found on Etsy. The burlap table runner goes down the middle of the kitchen island and above it hangs the banner. At the center of the island is a square crate I purchased at Michaels. The crate was the perfect size to display several single bottles of beer. In front of the crate, I poured a couple of frothy brews into a craft beer flight glass set.
Hoppy Birthday Party-Food
On top of the crate, I displayed chocolate peanut butter pretzel cupcakes with peanut butter buttercream frosting and caramel drizzle. Using a white square plate, the cupcakes sit alongside a chocolate beer. Chocolate cupcakes pair well with beer and so do pretzels and meatballs. I made the pretzels and meatballs from recipes found on Pinterest. I then layered the pretzels on a white rectangular tray with a side of beer cheese sauce. Behind the pretzels is an empty growler stuffed with dried wheat stalks. Another rectangular tray is piled with beer meatballs next to a boot-shaped glass filled with amber beads and white tissue paper.
The setup and decorations for this little beer birthday party were simple. The food was all made from scratch and took quite a bit of time and effort. All worth it to help my husband usher in another year. At Mommy Baggage we also like to celebrate dads. Read more about our Super Dad Father’s Day party here.
