Birthdays are special at Mommy Baggage. The day is an opportunity to shower the birthday boy with love and attention and also offers a chance to get creative. When asked what type of party our soon to be five year old wanted, he replied with castles, swords and fire breathing dragons. Here’s how I made his vision of a dragon birthday party come to life.
Placesettings
To set the scene for this dragon birthday party I first hung a medieval pennant banner with red, blue and gold balloons as accents around the party table. To create the place settings, first drape the table in a stone plastic table cloth. Then layer on a gold dinner plate with a dragon dessert plates. To complete the placesetting use knight drink cups and red flatware wrapped in a medieval printable.
Party Decorations
The rest of the party’s decorations are inspiration and printables from Nothing Panda. The banner above the dessert table uses a custom sign from Nothing Panda and the same medieval pennant banner from the dining table. The cupcake toppers are Nothing Panda as well. To dress them up a bit I add a cardstock backer in a solid color.
Cake
To create the whimsical dragon cake, follow this tutorial. The guide gives step by step instructions and even a template for the dragon wings. The cake is easy to make and is primarily constructed using a Bundt cake, cake donuts and chocolate covered snack cakes. The birthday boy LOVED the dragon cake. It was the highlight of the party for him. The birthday boy was also very excited to wear his custom made birthday tshirt. His smile is evidence that he loved the cake and the shirt.
Here at Mommy Baggage we love birthday parties and we really adore the dragon birthday party theme. Check out our firefighter, construction, pirate and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle parties. Each party is unique and festive and hopefully helps launch the birthday boy into the next year of growth and development.
Happy Adventuring, Rochelle
