Date Your Spouse: Drink Dangerously

As a mother of two who works outside the home, I’m constantly being pulled in about eleven different directions. Striving towards career goals, juggling my boys’ school and activities, managing a household, keeping up with laundry and writing a blog post here and there leaves little time for maintaining my relationship with my husband. Despite competing priorities, we try to find time to Date Your Spouse. When we do carve out time to spend together without our boys, I likely post about it on social media and hashtag it, #dateyourspouse. I often get really positive feedback from people who are looking to spend one-on-one time with their partners. So I’ve decided to start of series of posts over the next year that highlight a few fun ways to stay connected as a couple. This date your spouse drink dangerously post includes opportunities for cocktails and uninterrupted conversations.

Betty Danger’s Country Club

Betty Danger’s Country Club calls itself the country club for the 99%. No membership required. It’s the kind of club that allows you to bring your dog to their 8 1/2 hole (par-whatever) mini-golf course while sipping creative cocktails on their vertically revolving patio. They insist it is not a Ferris Wheel. In fact, the patio is called The Danger. There are no country club fees but you do need to make a reservation so physically distancing can be maintained.

When you arrive, check-in at the caddy shack and receive a colored wristband. Wristbands correspond with the colored table tents at each patio table. Sit at a table with a table tent color that matches your wristband color. At the caddy shack you can also purchase tokens for food, drinks, putt-putt golf and a ride on The Danger. We spent about two hours at Betty Dangers. We enjoyed eating Chicken McDangers and fries, sipping tasty cocktails and watching the sunset from the vertically revolving patio aka, Ferris Wheel.

Whiskey Tasting at Home

Date your spouse ideas don’t always need to include reservations for a night out. This at-home whiskey tasting idea brings the dating game to your living room. For a whiskey tasting at home, you’ll need a few bottles of spirits and several small glasses. The inspiration for this date your spouse activity came to me after a tour of a distillery my husband and I took with friends last year in Denver. One of the souvenirs we took home from the trip was a stave from a barrel that the distillery used to age their whiskey.

I found these cute little 6 ounce glasses at a big box store. You can find other cute ones here. The toughest part of putting the whiskey tasting together was choosing the spirits. I spent too much time at the liquor store choosing varieties of whiskeys. I ended up with a Minnesota made whiskey from Panther Distillery, Jim Beam’s Devil’s Cut, Woodbridge (we’ve had this one before and knew we liked it), a Kentucky Whiskey from Bulleit and a blackberry flavored whiskey from Revel Stoke.

I had fun shopping for a cute centerpiece and cake stand to display the whiskeys. My husband was more than happy whiskey was being included in the date your spouse activity. Date your spouse drink dangerously is hopefully the first of a few posts centered around clever ways to connect and enjoy with your partner. Stay tuned over the next year as I add fun date night ideas to the blog. For a few other couple ideas that involve travel, check out posts on trips we’ve taken to Colorado, New York City, Germany and France.

Happy Adventuring, Rochelle
