Christmas Movie Parties

I love snuggling on the couch with the kiddos with a good holiday movie. This year, I decided to put together a couple of Christmas Movie themed parties and treat nights leading up to the holidays. The idea was to adorn the kitchen island with decorations from the movie and include a treat and a drink with the movie’s theme.

Movie #1: How the Grinch Stole Christmas

We started with the green one himself, Mr. Grinch. A couple of years ago we went to the Minneapolis Children’s Theater for a live performance of the musical, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and we did a similar party prior to attending so I had all the supplies needed. I blogged about it a while back. Find details and specifics here. I also found a way to incorporate our Elf on the Shelf, Elroy into our fun. He’s making sure the Grinch does NOT steal this year’s Christmas.

Movie #2: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

I love Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’s messages of inclusion and capitalizing on your unique strengths. The decorations for this movie night included a couple of printables, a piece of red polka dot fabric, a cake stand, a lighted tree, and a couple of plush animals. The larger Rudolph plush was a Kohls purchase. The Bumble and Clarice mini plush animals were seasonal items in Target’s Christmas stocking stuffer section. The 8×10 reindeer sign was an Etsy purchase as was the Santa with reindeer printable.

For the Rudolph movie-themed treat I made reindeer brownie. I started by baking the brownies in a round cake pan and then cut into triangles. I then used candied google eyes and a red M&Ms for the nose. The antlers are mini pretzels. The reindeer punch is Red Juicy Hawaiian Punch and 7-Up mixed together and served in Belgian beer style glasses.

Movie #3: Frosty the Snowman

Frosty the Snowman teaches us to live every day to the fullest. Our Frosty party included simple decorations. The snowman banner can be found on Etsy as can the 8×10 Frosty sign. The smaller signage with a movie quote was free on Pinterest. I reused the red cake stand and lighted tree from previous parties. I stumbled upon the black top hat on an end cap at a nearby grocery store. The plaid ribbon it came with was removed and a pink flower like the hat Frosty wears in the movie was added.

The island runner as a strip of remnant fabric I found at a local fabric store. The party’s snowman treats were Hostess Ding Dongs covered with white frosting and decorated with licorice, M&Ms and mini-chocolate chips. I used snowman mugs to serve hot chocolate piled high with whip creme.

Movie #4: Elf

Elf is just plain funny so it had to be one of the movies we watched this month. There are so many great quotes from the movie and many of the decorations are nods to those memorable movie moments. Buddy the Elf says, “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is to sing it loud for all to hear,” so I used a piece of Christmas sheet music fabric as the island runner. Movie quotes also prompted the use of the rotary phone and the nutcracker. I purchased the printable quote cards on Etsy and propped them on easels.

The two tiered tray in the center of the island is loaded with items that make an appearance in the movie; Etch-a-Sketch, maple syrup, spaghetti, marshmallows, M&Ms, Pop-Tarts, candy cane sticks (candy cane forest) and a snow globe. It was disappointing that I could not find a snow globe with the Empire State building. Instead, I used a snow globe with an elf that we already owned. The look is complete by adding a movie quote banner above the island. Download the banner here.

The Elf Movie Party treats were Buddy the Elf spaghetti cookie bars and mini Coke bottles.

The Christmas Movie Parties are a weekly event leading up to the holidays. They are a chance to plan and put together a few decorations and treats for our family and an excuse to spend the night snuggled up on the couch. I hope you found a bit of inspiration to maybe plan your own Christmas Movie Night this season.

Happy Adventuring, Rochelle
